Feb. 14, 2016----Valentine's Day:

So what do you do on your first Valentine's day in South Florida?????  You take your husband to the airport and get rid of him for 2 weeks.  He said that was his Valentine's gift to me and I guess it was because I didn't get anything else.  But after 40+ years of marriage, what can you expect.  Usually we're in Hawaii now---I've come to expect that!  But it's nice spending a winter in South Florida.  I can't complain about the 70's in the daytime and 60's at night.  A couple times it got down to the 40s at night, but we haven't had to turn the heater on.  Our apartment being on the 2nd of 3 floors seems to stay a pretty constant temperature.  Yes, we do use the AC alot, but that's more to eliminate the humidity.

Anyway---he flew back "home" to St. Louis out of West Palm Beach this time since it was about $100 cheaper then Ft. Lauderdale.  So I dropped him off about 1 for his 2:55 flight.  Then I stopped at Wakodahatchee on the way home and took a bunch more pictures of the birdies.  This is the park where there are a lot of nests and baby birds.
It's also a very pretty walk:

I find it interesting how Anhingas feed their young! The baby sticks it's head down the parents throat.
a big swamp hen
the moon on that nice day
 an Anhinga in flight
some of the baby Anhingas waiting for more food.  The poor guy to the right looks like he isn't getting his share.
Cormorant and her baby---they feed the same way.
a great white egret in flight.
 one of the many ospreys
Saw the largest gator I've ever seen!
 huge alligator yawning.
green heron fishing.  They will hang almost upside down on the branch, then shoot their neck into the water while still holding on to the branch.
 on the rebound
green heron back on the limb and stretching his neck out to dry.

 a Blue Jay
 another osprey
a tri color heron fishing--they like to dance around on top of the water confusing the fish, then they dive in.

a great blue heron with his catch!
I watched him about 20 minutes then he finally gave up.
mating feathers of one of the great white egrets
 a soft shell turtle
a bunch of black bellied whistling ducks
Blue heron family napping
old blue eyes
It was another rewarding photography day.
