4-14-15 Wynwood Walls

When Angie and Josh moved to South Florida, I LOVED going there to visit.  Never would I have thought that I'd like such a populated area, but I sure did!  This trip ended up being especially special!  After Ken and I went on a cruise, we ended up looking at an apartment and putting money down on one to move into starting in the beginning of June!   But for now----we were staying with Angie and Josh for a couple weeks pre/post cruise and acting like tourists.

One day Angie and I headed to Miami to Wynwood Walls---then for a night out to Knight Concert Hall to see "Sister Act".
The Wynwood Walls was conceived by the renowned community revitalizer and placemaker, the late Tony Goldman in 2009. He was looking for something big to transform the warehouse district of Wynwood, and he arrived at a simple idea: “Wynwood’s large stock of warehouse buildings, all with no windows, would be my giant canvases to bring to them the greatest street art ever seen in one place.” Starting with the 25th–26th Street complex of six separate buildings, his goal was to create a center where people could gravitate to and explore, and to develop the area’s pedestrian potential.
Since its inception, the Wynwood Walls program has seen over 50 artists representing 16 countries and have covered over 80,000 square feet of walls.

First time I've come across this type of parking system!

With each year the Wynwood Walls endeavors to expand its breadth, introduce well known and emerging artists and bring world class art to the community.

 even has picnic areas

and a really interesting restaurant---Wynwood Kitchen and Bar.
Offered tapas style the menu gives guests the freedom to try a variety of dishes.
The food together with creative cocktails, artisanal beers and an international wine list make this one of the coolest dining and drinking destinations in the United States.
We ordered a plethora of tapas.
 They were all quite good.

Back to checking out the graffiti.

 selfie time!

even a boy taking a picture of us taking a picture of him.

love them all, but especially this style.

amazing how realistic graffiti can look!

even kids seemed to enjoy the paintings.
 as well as big kids.
There was a store in the premises that had some interesting things in it, too.
 some really creative ideas!

 on our way out

After a couple hours there, it was time for Angie and me to get over to the Knight Concert Hall.
